LAST UPDATED: 10:00pm, Friday, 20 March 2020
In response to the outbreak of the coronavirus, COVID-19, we are advising all patients to follow the latest Government advice, NHS advice and guidance from Health Protection Scotland.
This page will always have our latest information on it and we’ll duplicate it on our Facebook page.
On Friday 20 March, the Government ordered the suspension of all routine community eye care services and moved to allowing only emergency and essential eye care.
This means all non-emergency appointments have been cancelled with immediate effect and there will be no routine eye care until further notice.
We are still available over the phone for advice, information and orders but only those with eye emergencies can be seen in the practice and only by appointment arranged in advance due to strict hygiene measures now in place.
These measures are designed to assist the NHS in carrying out its critical role in dealing with Coronavirus and so we strongly advise you DO NOT call your GP, visit A&E, call NHS 111 or visit minor injuries with any eye related problems. CALL US FIRST
An emergency includes such things as
- Red eye
- Foreign body
- Eye trauma
- Recent loss of vision
- Recent onset of eye pain
- Symptoms which suggest a recent retinal tear or detachment such as flashing lights and floaters
If you unsure whether your situation is an emergency, call us for advice
Essential eye care is defined as “providing appointments for patients who would not normally be considered to be emergencies, but where, in the practitioner’s professional judgement, a delay in an examination may be detrimental to a patient’s sight or wellbeing.”
This judgement will be made by the on-call optometrist who will triage all enquiries.
On Mon 23 Mar, we will contact all those with appointments already scheduled to let you know these have been cancelled and will be rearranged when normal service resumes.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns.
