Cameron Optometry is an award-winning optometry practice based in Edinburgh’s New Town. The family-run business is now looking for a new member of the team to support the optometrists in optical screening, as well as working as part of dispensing team, selling designer eyewear in the high end frame boutique. The successful candidate will play a role in the day- to-day running of the business, in particular supporting the front of house team.
Key responsibilities
The practice is recognised across the UK as providing the highest, most comprehensive level of eye care to all individuals, including those with complex eye conditions. The screening is an essential part of any appointment, providing the optometrists with a complete image of the patient’s eye health. In this varied role, the successful candidate will also play a key role in dispensing glasses from the recently redesigned dispensing room. The frame room (dispensing room) is a key feature of the practice, stocking high-end eyewear designers, operated rather like a luxury fashion boutique.
There are two main functions in this role:
- To provide screening services to the optometry team, to generate a concise image of the patient’s eye health, operating the necessary technology (training will be provided if required). In addition, the role will involve teaching contact lens handling, eye drop instillation and providing general eye health education.
- Dispensing glasses in our frame room, offering advice and guidance to patients as they select spectacles from our designer range. The retail optical assistant will be expected to have an active interest in fashion, trends and styling with a keen eye to sell, supporting the dispensing team. Training will be provided and could also lead to a formal dispensing optometrist qualification in due course.
They will also cover other roles such as front of house, welcoming patients to the practice. This varied role will include a range of tasks across these areas, as required by the business, with the primary importance being the provision of a smooth and efficient screening service to maintain the highest standards of clinical care in this award-winning optometry practice.
Person specification
- Professional, confident and flexible, able to juggle various roles
- Clinically driven with a good understanding of the importance of excellent clinical care
- Positive and personable, working as a supportive member of the team
- Exceptional customer service skills and ability to engage with a range of ages and personalities, engendering trust
- Comfortable managing own workload in a busy, high volume practice
- Excellent computer literacy and comfort with using technology
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate complex clinical advice to patients as directed by optometrists
- Ability to identify customer needs and to close a sale.
Training will be provided however previous experience working in the optometry profession, and/or a strong retail background, in particular in the luxury market, would be strongly beneficial.
